Upon mentioning the fauxhawk in my last post, I got some questions about what exactly is the "fauxhawk". So I shall explain...
The Urban Dictionary defines it as: "A full head of hair combed into the middle to fabricate the look of a mohawk. Ladies want me because I got a fauxhawk." I dont think it gets more spot on than that.
The look was made famous by British-turned-US-soccer-player-for-way-too-much-money David Beckam. (At right). In some countries the look is simply called the Beckham. Sweet.

Some of you may recall the style from your bathtub as a child and finding you could use the shampoo for a similar, yet temporary, mohawk-look. Little did you know you were years ahead of your time with what was actually the fauxhawk.
It is also quite popular in the current punk scene. In years past, the mohawk was seen as a dramatic statement by young adults. In the 80's was the glam-hawk (the pink and Elmer's glue style) with attitudes of noncomformity and "I don't care what drugs I do!" In the 40's and 50's was the pre-hawk that eventually turned into the greaser style. Today's fauxhawk doesn't so much represent any significant statements or youth movements (emo does not count) as much as it's just a funky hair style that's funny to give your baby but should not be worn past the age of 18.... unless your David Beckham... there's nothing juvenile about that picture....
